Two midwives were needed to take out a newborn infant weighing the same as a bowling ball.

Cherral Mitchell, 31, gave birth to Alpha, a not-so-little boy, on Thursday, and claims the staff were taken aback by his size.

He is the third heaviest infant ever born in the United Kingdom, weighing 14lb 15oz.

Cherral, from Thame, Oxon, has given her kid the moniker ‘Butter Bean,’ while her uncle has given him the nickname ‘Baby Hippo.’

Alpha’s birth was unexpected, since his mother had gotten the contraceptive coil before conceiving him with her 35-year-old electrical engineer spouse Tyson.

‘We didn’t believe he was going to grow so large,’ Cherral, who has three additional children, added.

‘ When his head emerged, everyone burst out laughing. Tyson, my husband, said, “Oh my God, he’s chunky.”

‘There were two nurses pushing on him, one of whom was attempting to push him down in order to free him.’

‘The nurses were on their phones, Googling, saying it had to be the largest baby.’ With Halloween approaching, he’s a bit of a pumpkin baby.’

Alpha, who was born on Thursday at 38 weeks, is thought to be the UK’s third-largest baby, with Guy Carr, who was born in 1992, holding the current record of 15lb 8oz.

George King, who was born in Gloucester in 2013, is the second-largest at 15lb 7oz.

Doctors think Alph’s growth is due to his consumption of Cherral’s sweet secretions while still in the womb.

‘They assume Alpha was in sweeter amniotic fluid since I was identified late with gestational diabetes,’ his mother said.

‘So he was drinking a lot, urinating a lot, and eating a lot of sweets,’ says the doctor.

Alpha was projected to weigh 11lb 1oz at 37 weeks during a scan, but he swelled by three pounds before being delivered by C-section a week later at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

‘I keep telling everyone that I gave birth to a baby butter bean. He’s referred to as a baby hippo by my uncle Jason.’

Cherral already has a three-year-old boy called Lyon, as well as four-year-old Rogue-Angel and ten-month-old Twyla Bay.

‘My previous children were all normal,’ she claimed, adding that Alpha is by far the largest.

Alpha is presently in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where he is being watched by neonatal nurses, although he is claimed to be ‘on the mend.’
